I Heart Faces Photo Challenge - Pink Week

This week over at iHEART FACES they are celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a photo challenge theme of PINK!!! This weeks challenge is dedicated to all those women who have been touched by this disease. I was never able to meet my maternal Grandmother because she died of breast cancer. This month should be a reminder to get your mammogram :)

Ahhh, the innocence of a child is shown in this photo of my daughter at her first dance recital. Sometimes it would be nice to go back to that innocence and not have to worry about things like breast cancer. But we can't, so go get your mammogram!! :)

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge - Smirk

This week's Photo Challenge over at IHeartFaces is "Smirk". I took this picture of my son Tyler at the park the other day. He and his sister were playing innocently when a rubber band was found on the ground. It was quickly turned into a slingshot :)
Thanks for stopping by!

Fix it Friday #71

It's time for Fix it Friday again :) This is a shot from a senior portrait session that I did NOT take but am "fixing" it with post-processing software for a fun activity. I use Adobe Lightroom 2 for all of my post processing.

Here is the SOOC (straight out of camera):

Here is my first edit. Really the main thing I did here was use the adjustment brush to boost the sky so it isn't so blown out. I also boosted the contrast and added a vignette.

Here is my 2nd edit. I copied my first edit and then cropped it, dropped the saturation to 0 and boosted the contrast.

Thanks for stopping by :) Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!! If you want to see more entries to Fix it Friday, stop by IHeartFaces.

I Heart Faces Fix-it-Friday #70

This little girl is too cute :) This was a fun photo to "fix" although the original was great as well! See below for my edits

SOOC (straight out of the camera) Original:
My Fairytale edit:
My Summer Haze edit:
My Vintage edit:
I use Lightroom 2 for all of my edits. I brightened up her eyes and used presets for the last 2. The Fairytale one I boosted the contrast, warmed up the picture, softened the clarity, brightened up her eyes and boosted the yellow.

To see more edits please go to I Heart Faces.

I Heart Faces Fix-it-Friday #69

This is my first entry in the Fix-it-Friday on iheartfaces.com

So here's the deal. This photo was not taken by me. It is provided by iheartfaces.com in order to take it and edit it anyway you'd like. Just some fun practice.

I use Adobe Lightroom 2 for my post processing. Still learning it too.

So here is the SOOC shot (straight out of camera):

I'm calling this edit the "Summer Haze" edit:
Here's my "Chocolate" edit:
And the B&W edit:

So I did these edits last night and I used some presets in Lightroom and then adjusted contrast, brightness, saturation a bit. Once I adjusted those I lost what preset I used :( So I can't remember the name of the presets. Wonder if I can figure that out?? Anyways, after that I cropped the photos.

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge - Photojournalism

This week’s theme for I Heart Faces is “Photojournalism”. I thought this was the perfect photo.

This is a photo of my son and his 2 friends getting ready for a tube ride behind our boat. You see my son and his friend have their hands in the prayer position, praying that my husband does not fling them to the next county.

This is it!

So here I am sitting drinking my morning coffee on what is suppose to be the hottest day of the year. What am I doing? I'm not too sure yet. I graduated 11 years ago from SMS with a computer programming degree. For 8 years after that I worked my tail off, 50 hours a week, at Hallmark Cards, Inc. (in Kansas City) in their Payroll department trying to fix any problems (and there were A LOT of problems) that came about. I was on-call at night most nights and was called many a times at 2:00am to fix critical Payroll problems. I'm married to my best friend, Kevin, and he works for J.E. Dunn Construction company. He too worked just as much as me if not more and has even bigger fires to fight at work than I did. Then 3 years ago he was offered a transfer to Springfield, MO - the town where we met and fell in love - and we jumped at the opportunity for a change of life. The move meant more money which meant I could STOP WORKING. What?? Me not work??? I'm still in shock that I haven't worked in 3 years. I'd worked ever since I was about 14 years old.
Oh yeah, I also have 2 beautiful children. The lights of my life. The reason I haven't worked in 3 years. I love love love my kids. Tyler is 9 and is about the nicest, sweetest, well mannered kid I know (and I'm not saying that because he's mine, it's just the truth :) Lindsey is 5 and is also sweet, nice and well mannered, but she comes with a little more Sassiness then her big
brother. I love every bit of her sassiness!!
Ok, so here I am about 2 weeks before Lindsey starts Kindergarten and I am experiencing this urge to work again. I've applied to be a substitute teacher at my kids school to get me thru this little transition from home to work, but what I really would like to do is Photography.
I took a few photography classes in High School and thought for sure I wanted to major in photography in college. But somewhere in the art classes that were required long before photography classes could begin, I lost interest. But now it's back. It's just what I really love to do. So I started a blog today. I don't really know why. I'm not a writer (as you can tell) but I want a place to put pictures to share and hopefully, one day, I'll be taking pictures for other people. I've got a lot to learn but I'm going to give it a go.
So thanks for stopping by, I hope to figure this blog out and post some pictures I've taken.
